Expressions of interest have now closed. If you have any queries please email terito2022@gmail.com.

This groundbreaking initiative by four major media partners - Māori Television, New Zealand Media & Entertainment (NZME), Newshub, and Pacific Media Network - will train and develop 25 new journalism cadets. It is an exciting new pathway that will inject the industry with voices that better reflect the diverse communities of Aotearoa.

This programme has been made possible by New Zealand On Air's Public Interest Journalism Fund.

Cadets will be paid a junior wage during the one-year programme of training and work experience which will begin in February 2022. The programme will be based in Auckland.

The last day for expressions of interest in joining this cadetship is Sunday 21 November, 2021.

Cadets will experience all facets of journalism across digital, print, radio, broadcast television and more. Te Rito’s teachers and mentors will be experienced newsroom operators who can’t wait to share with you just how exciting, rewarding and meaningful journalism can be.

If you have drive, initiative, curiosity, a love of storytelling and a desire to make a difference in your community, this could be your leap into an amazing future.
